Legend has it that the bisse was built by the Saracens (Muslims for the Westerners in the Middle Ages) who came up the Alpine valleys in the 10th century and to whom the Valaisans owe their irrigation know-how. Did the Saracens really build this bisse which bears their name? The enigma is complete! On the other hand, the remains on the Bisse des Sarrasins trail reveal the probable existence of an ancient 10 km long bisse, from Pinsec to the Briey plateau, which had its source in the Pinsec torrent.
Today, it is estimated that the bisse was built in the 14th century. The Bisse des Sarrasins path now leads from Pinsec to Vercorin with a fork in the centre to Fang. The Bisse des Sarrasins is a "waterless" bisse.
Two didactic paths can be followed along the way. One educational trail is part of Chalais aux Chalets and will take you to Les Voualans and the second follows the buckwheat's stream to Pinsec.
